PHOTO RESTORATION - THE STEPS
How do we restore photos? Typically, digital photo restoration is a 4 step process (see the illustration below).
STEP 1. First, the original photograph is scanned either by the client or Photo Doctor 911. Scanning the original photo at a very high resolution in color (even if the photo is black and white) is very important. Scanning at a minimum of 600 dpi is best.
STEP 2. After a good, high resolution, color scan is acquired, the lighting and color levels are then adjusted to get rid of any yellow tones and discoloration that has occurred due to aging.
STEP 3. After the levels have been adjusted, the restoration and repair work can begin. This can involve removing dust specks, scratches, stains, writing, fingerprints and repairing folds, tears or reconstructing missing pieces of the photo.
STEP 4. After the photo has been repaired and restored, the levels are again adjusted. At this point the photograph can then be colorized, if requested.
